Should I Let the Dealership "Coat" My Vehicle?

In today’s rapidly growing detailing industry, dealerships are attempting to sell ceramic coating packages as part of new car packages. At Apex, we advised against doing this for a few reasons.

  • The car salesmen typically has no idea what brand of coating is going on your car, how long it will last or how to care for the coating.

  • Even new cars need paint decontamination, polishing & correcting before applying a ceramic coating for the best results & longevity. This critical step is often skipped by the dealership to increase margins.

  • Dealerships often times use coatings meant for glass application and thus, the durability is questionable at best (6 months at best due to using the wrong type of coating on the vehicle’s paint).

  • There is often no official documentation that the coating was ever applied such as on the vehicle’s CarFax or an official warranty backed by the coating’s manufacturer.

The lesson is: Don’t let the dealership “ceramic coat” your vehicle. The Apex team has unfortunately come across customers who had the dealership coat their vehicles and it was evident that no protection was applied or if it was, it degraded extremely quickly.
